Harborsite helped me find peace after service; their support feels like a true lifeline.

HSOTG Location

Harbor Site Outdoor Therapy Group ‘Base of Operations’ is located in Real County, Texas. Real (REE al, or REE awl) County is in southwest Texas, approximately 100 miles west-northwest of San Antonio. Situated on the Balcones Escarpment at the southern edge of the Edwards Plateau, the area is commonly referred to as ‘The Texas Hill Country’. The property was previously part of a large cattle, sheep, and goat ranch. Equidistant between the Frio and Nueces rivers, HSOTG Base Camp is remote, rugged, and secluded. Base Camp is in a rare (for Texas ) Piñon-Juniper forested area. The region is mountainous, with numerous ridges and limestone cliffs dissected by canyons. Elevation of Base Camp ranges from 1800-2400 feet asl. Walking/hiking trails subsequently vary from Easy/Beginner, to Strenuous/Experienced. Regional weather can be extreme. Winds over 50 mph are not uncommon.

Temperatures can reach Zero degrees F or below in Winter, and in excess of 100 degrees in Summer. While only receiving an average of 23.88 inches of rainfall annually (“You should be here on the day it happens…”) the area is prone to flash-flooding due to ground slope and surface composition. Because of its relatively untouched state and plentiful natural food sources, wildlife is abundant.
